Healthy Teeth.
Happier, Healthier Lives.

Sedation dentistry for dogs is a safe, stress-free procedure that allows our veterinary dental specialists to perform a thorough, professional cleaning while your pup rests comfortably. No anxiety, no discomfort — just a healthier smile.

Reduces pain & infection

Untreated dental disease causes chronic pain and dangerous infections that spread to vital organs.

Improves overall health

Oral health is directly linked to heart, kidney, and liver health. Clean teeth mean a healthier body.

Freshens breath

Say goodbye to "dog breath" — professional cleaning removes the bacteria causing odor at the source.

Longer, happier life

Dogs with healthy teeth live longer, more comfortable lives. It's one of the best investments you can make.

What Does AAHA Recommend?

The American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) does not recommend anesthesia-free dentistry as a substitute for a professional dental cleaning.

  • Anesthesia-free cleanings only remove tartar that is visible above the gumline.
  • The most harmful dental disease develops below the gumline, where it cannot be safely or effectively treated without anesthesia.
  • Pets who are awake may move unexpectedly, increasing the risk of injury during cleaning.
  • Without anesthesia, dental X-rays and a thorough oral examination cannot be performed.

So What is Anesthesia versus Sedation?

Anesthesia is a broad medical term for blocking pain and sensation during procedures, whereas sedation is a specific technique that relaxes the patient and reduces awareness. Sedation actually falls on the lighter end of the overall anesthesia spectrum, which ranges from minimal relaxation to complete unconsciousness.

Our Safer "In-Between" Option:
Sedation Dentistry

For pets that may not need a full anesthetic dental procedure or whose owners are looking for an alternative, we offer sedation dentistry.

This approach provides:

  • A calmer, more comfortable experience for your pet
  • Better access for a more thorough cleaning than an awake procedure
  • Reduced stress and anxiety
  • An added margin of safety compared to attempting dental work on a fully awake pet
While sedation dentistry is not a replacement for a comprehensive anesthetic dental procedure when advanced dental disease is present, it can be an excellent option for select patients after a veterinary assessment.

What is not offered as part of sedation dentistry?

  • We will not extract teeth (that are not mobile enough to fall out with gentle cleaning only)
  • We will not remove oral masses or gingival hyperplasia

Is Sedation Dentistry Right for My Pet?

Every pet is different. Before recommending any dental procedure, we evaluate your pet's:

Age
Overall health
Dental condition
Medical history
